mawa
design: Setsu & Shinobu Ito
Developed in partnership with Hands on Design.
A woven wicker basket with an asymmetrical, enveloping form, on a base covered in leather.
This container reinterprets the archetype of the woven basket in a contemporary way, with ample proportions and organic asymmetrical forms. The wicker is enhanced by a leather band at the base
that gives the object decorative impact. The piece is difficult to make precisely due to the asymmetrical form.
“The two centerpieces draw their inspiration from Nature. The irregular shape of Shizè comes from the stones found in rivers; Mawa, narrow at the base and wider towards the top, borrows its features from a flower in all its splendor.”
